Often described as a wonderful place to escape for a great day out, Killruddery has been home to the Brabazon Family (the Earls of Meath) since 1618. Conveniently located on the outskirts of the capital where Dublin meets Wicklow, here's your opportunity to discover a hidden gem in our midst. There's so much to see and explore. Nature has never been more relaxing with leisurely walks in one of Ireland's most renowned gardens filled with beautiful planting and wooded areas, water features and distinctive outdoor "rooms". Powerscourt House & Gardens

Powerscourt Gardens in County Wicklow is one of the most beautiful gardens in Ireland. Located near Enniskerry, County Wicklow, Ireland, this large country estate is noted for its house and landscaped gardens, today occupying 19 hectares (47 acres). The house, originally a 13th century castle, was extensively altered during the 18th century by German architect Richard Cassels. A fire in 1974 left the house lying as as a shell until it was renovated in 1996. Today the estate is owned and run by the Slazenger family . It is a popular tourist attraction, and includes a fabulous golf course.

Mount Usher

Like all the great gardens of Ireland, Mount Usher offers varying pleasures at different seasons of the year. Rhododendrons in Spring, a blaze of Summer colour and the wistful tints of Autumn, all elegantly set off by the crystal waters of the river. In addition to the gardens, Mount Usher offers a comprehensive home produced menu in the Avoca Garden Cafe, as well as a shopping courtyard which is open all year round. Ample car parking and coach spaces are available and the gardens are within easy reach of Dublin.

Bray Seafront 

Distance from The Beacon: 10 minutes 

Bray is the longest established seaside town in Ireland, and enjoys a mile long beachfront promenade. The beach is dominated by Bray Head and its summit cross, with the Sugar Loaf and the Wicklow Mountains in the background. The scenic cliff walk from Bray Head to Greystones offers walkers a feast of views on the way. Bray is a busy urban centre that retains some of the reminders of distant medieval past. Much of its out-standing Georgian and Victorian architecture remains.

Dun Laoghaire Harbour

Dun Laoghaire is a very historical town. It used to be a small fishing village on a rocky coast near Salthill, which was renowned for its production of salt. The original village, called Dunleary was situated near the beginning of the present West Pier. The present inner harbour, known as the coal harbour, dates from that time of the 18th century. It consisted of seventy dwellings or cottages, and was a very compact little village. The harbour, one of the largest in the country, and base for a now limited car ferry route to the United Kingdom, is notable for its two granite piers. The East Pier is particularly popular with walkers, and was featured in the 1996 movie Michael Collins.

Marlay Park

Marlay Park is a 121 hectares (300 acres) suburban park located in Rathfarnham in County Dublin, Ireland. Lying about nine kilometres (5.5 miles) from Dublin city centre. The parkland comprises of woodlands, ponds and walks. Recreational spaces include a nine hole par three golf course, tennis courts, six football pitches, five GAA pitches, a cricket pitch, two childrens' playgrounds and a miniature railway run by the Dublin Society of Model and Experimental Engineers. There is also a craft courtyard with home craft shops and coffee shops.

Kayaking

 

Kayaking.ie provide kayaking classes and tours in Dalkey and in Lucan. All of our tours are suitable for complete beginners and allow participants to enjoy wonderful views and scenery in some of Dublin's most beautiful places.
 
Our tours take place daily at 9.30am and 2pm under the watchful eye of highly qualified friendly instructors. Our kayaks are extremely comfortable and stable so no need to worry about falling in. Tours last for 3 hours which includes time to walk on historic Dalkey Island, float along admiring the views and saying hello to the seals. It also includes the time it takes to learn how to hold a paddle and get changed.

Leopardstown Racecourse

Leopardstown Racecourse is an Irish horse-racing venue located in Leopardstown, County Dublin, 8 km south of Dublin city centre. Like the majority of Irish courses, it hosts both National Hunt and Flat racing. Many important races are held here and racing takes place all year round, with about 22 meetings per year. Leopardstown Golf and Club House is situated in the middle of the racetrack. The course also has designer shops, a fitness centre, the Leopardstown Pavilion, Fillies Cafe Bar, the Silken Gilder Restaurant, the Paddock Food Hall, Club 92 nightclub, Madigans pub, and numerous bars and snack areas. A farmers market is also on-site every Friday.

Druids Glen

Druids Glen is a golf resort in County Wicklow. The resort consists of the 5-star Marriott Druids Glen Hotel and Country Club, two championship golf courses, and Woodstock House, which was built in 1770 and is now the clubhouse at Druids Glen. The "Druids Glen Golf Course", opened in 1995, was the venue for the Irish Open between 1996 and 1999, and the 2002 Seve Trophy. The second course on the site is the "Druids Heath Golf Course", which opened in 2003.

Brittas Bay Beach

Distance from The Beacon: 40 minutes 

Brittas Bay is one of the finest beaches on the east coast and is the most popular beach around for day tripping Dubliners to get out of the city on a summer day. Brittas Bay has a 5km stretch of beautiful white sand dunes and clean beaches. This beach has won a European Union Blue Flag - the international emblem for the highest quality beach areas in Europe - for five consecutive years. With no headlands to interfere with the peaceful rhythm, it is ideal for bathing, sailing and walking. Brittas has a 2 mile/3.2km stretch of powdery sand and sand dune system which is a designated area of significant interest. The dunes are home to many interesting wildlife species and plants, including a number of rare species.

Ennereilly Beach 

Distance from The Beacon: 40 minutes 

Located in Wicklow, Ennereilly beach is en route to Arklow and is a wonderful beach for walking, shell collecting and beach angling. There is a small parking area free of charge. You will often see washed up starfish and the occasional seal bobbing out to sea.
