Dublin Zoo re-opened to the public on June 2nd. For the most up to date information regarding opening hours click here.
Having opened in 1831, Dublin Zoo is one of the world’s oldest and most popular zoos. Today it is home to over 400 animals. The 28-hectare park zoo is nestled within Phoenix Park and features beautiful gardens and lakes.
Attracting nearly 1 million visitors a year, Dublin Zoo is one of Ireland’s most popular family attractions. A day at the zoo will provide a fun experience for both adults and children. While all ages are welcome, children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult for access into the Zoo. It is suggested to set at least three hours aside to see everything that the zoo has to offer, though you can very easily spend the whole day exploring.
If you get hungry during your visit, Dublin Zoo offers a range of hot and cold meals and snacks throughout the park. There is also a picnic lawn and picnic tables if you wish to bring your own food instead.
If you are driving to Dublin Zoo, you can park your car at either the Lord’s Walk car park beside the zoo or the Cricket Grounds car park opposite the zoo. Both car parks are open at 10 am daily. If you are already in the city centre and want to go to the zoo there are various buses running constantly that will drop you off at Phoenix Park. Alternatively, you can take the Luas red line to Heuston Station which will leave you about a 15-minute walk from the zoo.
