'We stayed at The Beacon Hotel in Sandyford with our two daughters as a special treat for my youngest daughter's 13th birthday. Arriving at the Hotel is a real treat, the lift from the car park is beautifully decorated with padded walls and Victorian style lamps, giving you a flavour of what's to come. Then you walk out the lift into the lobby which is super glamorous! There's an oversized bed in the middle of the lobby, plenty of seating, a pool table that you can enjoy, sheer curtains and fabulous light fittings all around, everyone just stops and says Wow.
When staying with your tween/teens, rooms can be allocated on the same floor but the hotel doesn't guarantee that they are adjoining nor offer interconnecting. If you ask, then staff will do their best to book them as close as possible. Luckily we did have 2 rooms side by side, one was a twin for the girls, the other a king for Mum and Dad. Both rooms were beautifully decorated with stylish modern features including plastic see-through Phillipe Starck style chairs, an oversized modern chaise longue and floor to ceiling drapes. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and well thought out. The modern ensuite bathrooms have a gorgeous free standing bath and separate shower, fluffy towels and robes and White Company toiletries. The beds were comfortable, with great pillows. I personally usually struggle with hotel pillows being too flat but these were perfect. Our room was quiet at night, allowing for a peaceful night's sleep.
My only suggestion for improving the rooms would be to have a plug in USB charger/docking station , as you need at least 4 plugs per room for your tweens/teens charging phones and tablets nowadays! We didn't eat at the hotel's My Thai restaurant as Jamie's Italian had been specially requested for the birthday meal, but I had a peek at the menu and it looks divine. Next day we enjoyed the breakfast buffet - nice selection of bread and pastries, make your own granola/cereal with fruit options, lots of different juices, then hot breakfast items and an eggs-to-order counter if you wanted.
There's free parking for guests at the hotel, so we decided to leave our car the next day and travel by public transport. It is only 6 minutes walk to the nearest Luas Green Line stop Kilmacud, two stops down to Dundrum for our big shopping expedition. Then we were back onto the Luas to head into Dublin city centre getting off at St Stephen's Green. There's easy M50 access nearby to the hotel, and I noticed IKEA's new southside location is only another exit away so we'll definitely be combining that with the shopping and dining next time. For those looking for other activities nearby you can go to Skillzone, Jumpzone, Ski School, Rainforest Adventure Golf, Movies at Dundrum, hiking in the Dublin Mountains and nearby Leopardstown Racecourse for racing festivals.
So to summarise, this is a stylish but comfortable hotel, brilliantly located off the M50 for driving up and with such an easy hop on to the Luas to Dundrum and into the city centre. Our teens loved the glamour of the hotel, we loved the comfortable bed, fluffy robes and the luxury. We'll definitely be back.'
